CBH is the primary professional organization serving the interests of community behavioral health providers in Maryland and the children and adults they serve. To do this effectively CBH must be an advocate for its members in all policy arenas. Community programs receive most of their funding through Medicaid, the state mental health budget and other public agencies. They are governed by state laws and regulations. They receive oversight from federal, state and local mental health authorities.
Thus, CBH has established an extensive public policy presence that tries to ensure that community providers are at every possible policy-making table. We do so by working closely with:
the Maryland General Assembly
the Governor's office, state health department, its Mental Hygiene Administration, and other executive branch agencies
the public mental health system's administrative services organization now ValueOptions
local Core Service Agencies
many other policy-makers.
Most important of all, CBH keeps its members informed about and involved directly in policy decisions that affect their missions. We do this through email alerts, acess to a national web-based policy action service, and multiple CBH Committees. CBH and all member agencies are also members of the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare to stay abreast of federal issues.
Whether you're a CBH member or a stakeholder outside of CBH, use the pages in this section to learn more about policy issues and activities that might affect affect you or people you care about.
